How To Log In¶
There are now two ways for Monash users to log in to Store.Monash. You can continue to log in with your Monash username and password. However you are encouraged to try the new Australian Access Federation login method.
External collaborators should use the Australian Access Federation login method if supported at their organization. If it is not supported, they can click the “Log in with your Google Account” link, but this will require an extra activation step.
Australian Access Federation¶
What is the AAF?¶
The Australian Access Federation (AAF) is an identity broker. It enables access to online resources for the Education and Research sector by providing subscribers with a national single sign-on that allows individuals across many different organisations to collaborate and access online resources within a trusted environment. AAF subscriber base includes:
- all Australian Universities
- CSIRO and other government research agencies as well as leading research support organisations
- organisations providing online products or services for teaching, learning and research.

Store.Monash New Authentication Mechanisms¶
Store.Monash now supports three authentication mechanisms:
- Monash Identity (previously know as Authcate)
- Australian Access Federation
- Google Authentication (Restricted Access)
We will gradually phase out the direct authentication against the Monash Identity (Authcate) by moving all the accounts to the Australian Access Federation (AAF) as the main authentication mechanism. During this transition phase, Monash users can still use their Monash username and password to access Store.Monash if they prefer to do this.
Users who cannot use AAF because their organization is not an AAF subscriber can use Google Authentication. This will need an additional admin approval and will be restricted to specific use cases.
Store.Monash Account Migration¶
For current Store.Monash users, we built an account migration functionality to facilitate their transition to AAF. The migration functionality moves their Store.Monash settings and data from their Authcate account to their AAF account. The process is very simple and does not include copying your data. It just changes the ownership of your data from your Authcate account to your AAF account. After the completion of this process, you will not be able to use your Authcate account to access Store.Monash.

Before trying the new login method, you should log in with the Username / Password form and verify that you can see your data:
The first time you log in with the Australian Access Federation, you won’t be able to see your data, but you should see a Migrate My Account link which will allow you to make all of your data accessible when using the new login method.
If you don’t see the Migrate My Account link shown above, you can still access the account migration feature as shown below:
Clicking on the Migrate My Account link will take you to a new Migrate My Account page with a Username / Password form. Before you can make your data available to your new login method, you need to verify that you can access your old account by entering your Monash username and password:
After verifying your Monash username and password, you will see a Migrate button allowing you to make your data available to your new account:
After your account has been migrated, you should see your old data available when you log in using the new method:
Store.Monash Account Migration to Google Account¶
Users who cannot use Australian Access Federation(AAF) because their organization is not an AAF subscriber can use Google Authentication. This will need an additional admin approval and will be restricted to specific use cases:
Before trying the new login method, you should log in with the Username / Password form and verify that you can see your data:
The first time you log in with the Google account, you won’t be able to see your data. Your account will require administrator approval. At this stage Store.Monash administrator have been notified about this and your account approval may take 1-2 business days.
Once your account has been approved, you can use the Migrate My Account menu item to make your data available to your new login method:
Clicking on the Migrate My Account menu item will take you to a new Migrate My Account page with a Username / Password form. Before you can make your data available to your new login method, you need to verify that you can access your old account by entering your Monash username and password:
After verifying your Monash username and password, you will see a Migrate button allowing you to make your data available to your new account:

HSM App¶
Store.Monash now supports displaying online/offline status for files in the Hierarchical Storage Management system. Users can also submit a request to recall an offline file or a dataset.
Online/Offline status¶
On the dataset view page under tree view and list view, each file will have a status symbol indicating if it is online or offline. If a file is online, there will be a green dot indicating online status. If a file is offline, there will be a gray dot indicating offline status.

Request to recall a datafile¶
For an offline file, users can request to recall the file by clicking on the Request Recall button. An asynchronous process will try to recall this file and if successful, will send an email to the user with a link to download the file.

Request to recall a dataset¶
Users can also submit a request to recall all files in a dataset by clicking on the Request Dataset Recall button. This will send an email to the storage team and the user will be notified when the dataset is available for download.
